Food Benevolence

The Food Benevolence Program began in the mid 1980s and has been serving the community ever since.  The  Food Benevolence Team strives to meet the needs of disadvantaged families in Southern Maryland by distributing food to screened applicants on Wednesday mornings.

Food recipients range from senior citizens whose only income is a meager social security pension to families of ten or twelve.  We are presently serving about 120 families per month.

Additionally, we distribute over 200 Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets each year.  Each basket includes turkey, potatoes, yams, rolls, cranberry sauce, fruits, vegetables, cookies, candy, etc.  As an added touch, our church youth and children purchase and include various types of hygiene products for the baskets.

Food Distribution:
Food is distributed weekly from the pantry behind the church on Wednesdays, 9:30AM - 11:45PM

Volunteers:
Though food is distributed for less than three hours per week, there are many behind-the-scenes tasks such as acquiring, loading, transporting, stocking, packing and downloading the food for distribution.  We are always looking for new volunteers, both men and women, to dedicate some time to this extremely successful and popular ministry.  For more information on volunteering some time, please contact Harry Arnold.
