THE ADVENTURES OF FLAT JESUS

Since the founding of our church, Vacation Bible School has been one of the most significant programs in reaching young children and their families with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Sadly, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the many restrictions placed on large gatherings, hosting VBS at Hughesville Baptist in 2020 became an unworkable situation.  Rather than just saying “See You Next Summer,” the VBS has been searching for alternate ideas to take Christ to the community, even in these challenging times.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS “THE ADVENTURES OF FLAT JESUS?

“Flat Jesus” is crafted from a children’s book called Flat Stanley, (written by Jeff Brown). In the book, a boy named Stanley becomes flattened and is able to be mailed to different places, having all kinds of exciting adventures. We see the “Flat Jesus” project as a way to keep our church family connected through the summer season.  Color “Flat Jesus” and take him with you as you travel… or to whatever you do this summer.  Take a picture of him doing lots of different things: going out to dinner, having fun at the beach or the mountains, hanging out with friends or cousins, or whatever you are doing! It will be an amazing adventure! It is a great way to remember that Jesus is always with us, wherever we go. And it just might start up a conversation with someone about what you are doing…and why!

How can I participate?

1. Print “Flat Jesus” from the church website or pick one up in the front foyer at church.
2. Decorate your “Flat Jesus.” Be creative! You can make one for yourself and one for a friend!
3. When you have taken photos of “Flat Jesus,” email them to Julie Hugel at VBS@hughesvillebaptist.com or send them to her in a text 301-904-6149.

Julie will be adding them to the church’s Facebook page and website throughout the summer. It will be so exciting to see where our church family members and “Flat Jesus” go this summer! And remember, Jesus is with you ALWAYS!
